Calendula salve is another wonderful product available from nature (and man) that helps the skin and various skin issues. Made from the Marigold plant this salve is easy to make yourself with the following recipe: Add 1 cup fresh marigold flowers, leaves and stems to ΒΌ cup of coconut oil. Heat until foaming. Cover and cool overnight.
Put the resulting mixture in a cotton cloth and apply cloth to the scarred area. Needless to say any remedy you use for scarring will be more effective if the scar has newer tissue. Poultices of comfrey and horsetail have also been used for the same purpose. Marigold though a strong smelling plant has great uses. White Fly, which is a tenacious garden pest that loves your Hibiscus bushes, do not love French marigold.
In fact they have an aversion to this plant and avoid areas where French Marigolds grow. Lucky for us! Marigold or Calendula has of course been used for centuries as a medicinal. It has a high content of flavonoids which work as anti-oxidants in the body. Anti-oxidants protect the cells from damage due to oxidation. Oxidation is linked with immune function suppression.
